Thao Nguyen channels the spirit of Truffaut’s 1959 masterpiece Les Quatre Cents Coups into paint. Inspired by the film’s unforgettable scene where the young protagonist escapes into the world of books, this powerful artwork captures a moment of introspective rebellion and fragile freedom.
Rendered in expressive brushwork and deep monochromatic tones, the piece portrays a boy nestled into a corner, face absorbed in the pages of Balzac. Splashes of white and pink emerge from the shadows like bursts of emotional memory, while the dramatic contrast between light and dark evokes the cinematic intensity of French New Wave.
